BionX Conversion Kit - Upgrade to an Electric Bike

EPS, the Canadian manufacturer of the BionX system, is well known for its advanced technology in the power-assist bike market. Distributed in more than 225 bike shops throughout North America, BionX also entered the European and Australian markets in 2005. With more than 3000 satisfied BionX users, BionX continues to innovate and better respond to cyclists’ needs.

In addition to launching its new brushless and more powerful 350-watt motor, BionX continues to amaze by introducing a new Lithium Ion battery in March 2006. This new battery will provide greater autonomy while offering important weight reduction. Already used in laptops, cellular phones and other technological products, BionX is now introducing the Lithium Ion battery to the cycling world. A new technology for all cyclists to enjoy!

BionX offers 4 different retrofit models - a model for each rider type.

Series 250

Series 350

A light motor, proportional assist, 250W. This very light model was conceived for riders who who like to pedal without a motor but want a boost to ride up hills, to cover longer distances or to keep pace with a faster rider.

The new generation: Light motor, throttle-power + proportional assist, 350W. The most versatile model: powerful enough to cruise without pedaling, this motor also features the patented BionX proportional assist feature. These models are ideal for riders who want more.

For the 36V lithium, the lithium will fit in the battery box and will go on the frame.
The 36V NiMH battery is too big to fit in the battery box, so it must go in a pack on the rear rack.
For the 24V models (NiMH or Li Ion), both fit in the battery box.

If you plan a non-standard installation, e.g. mounting on a recumbent bike, you'll need to order non-standard cable lengths. Use the following PDF file to determine the lengths you'll need to complete the order. bionxcbl.pdf

This shows the battery pack mounted upside down on a recumbent bike. This mounting alternative doesn't use the rear rack. Recumbent riders may want to consider this or another location within the frame to mount the battery pack; this keeps your rack free/available for other stuff. If you're comfortable dealing with extra wire (e.g. by bundling it together to the frame with tie-wraps), then measure for battery placement on the rear rack. That will give you the flexibility to mount the battery pack most anywhere on the bike.

Here the battery pack receiver is mounted on a rack with raised slide/guide. To clear the slide/guide, spacers are installed.
