Contents of a Phoenix II 4840 Power System Only Kit

Complete systems from ElectroRide include everything you need to convert your pedal bike at home or at a bike shop, and we do a lot of the work for you. The wheel is laced to the motor and the batteries are pre-wired. Although Phoenix II systems are priced for the DIY market, we don't make you work very hard for it. Considering a Phoenix II system a DIY project would be similar to considering a new coffee table you must assemble a DIY project. There's a little assembly required, but nothing difficult. Every component we ship is tested just prior to shipment. Our goal is zero defects in our customers' hands.

Power System Only kits from ElectroRide include the main components necessary to convert your bike to electric except batteries, charger, and a mounting system. The wheel is laced to the motor. Every component we ship is bench tested just prior to shipment. The Power System Only kit was created for those who prefer to experiment with other battery technology, or already have a good battery source.  If you do not have a battery and charger, and do not have plans to purchase them elsewhere, order the complete kit rather than the Power System Only kit.

Here are pictures of individual PARTS for your perusal. You will also find hub system parts under parts categories.

Motor We offer two types of motors, the Cruiser is wound for speed and the Brute  is wound for torque. Both motors are available in front or rear, and can be laced to a 20in, 24in, 26in, and 700C rim. All Phoenix II motors are disc brake compatible.
Spokes We use 12 gauge spokes for all Phoenix II wheels. Normal bike spokes are 14 gauge. Heavier spokes mean less spoke maintenance and a stronger wheel. Each time you decrease one size in gauge, the thickness doubles. For example, a 12g spoke is twice as thick as a 13g spoke.
Rim For Phoenix II we offer  20", 24", 26", and 700C rims. All of these rims are double-walled.
Lacing We lace the motor to the rim on our bench. We tighten the spokes to the correct tension, and make sure the wheel is true before shipping.
Controller The 4840 power system only kit comes with a 48 volt 40amp controller (1920 watts). All Phoenix II controllers include plugs that will only fit into their mating plug, so there is no chance of plugging something in backward. Please note that even though only 3 pins may be used of a 4 pin connector, it is still a 4-pin connector and should only plug into its 4-pin mate. Plugs are identified by the total number of pins/holes available, not the number of pins/holes being used.
Throttle Three types of throttles are available for your Phoenix II system: Thumb Throttle, Half-Twist Throttle, and Full-Twist Throttle.  If you do not specify, you will receive a thumb throttle. You can see pictures of all the throttles we offer on our parts page. If you have twist shifters, choose a thumb throttle because the shifters take the space on the handlebar used by other models. All throttles are non-lighted for Phoenix II since the APM-Display monitors your battery capacity much more accurately.
APM-Display (Active Power Management Display) The APM-Display is included with all Phoenix II complete kits and power system only kits. The APM-Display is a toolbox for the Phoenix II owner, offering specific information about power consumption, efficiency, RPM, Voltage, etc. Please see the APM-Display Owner's Manual for details.
Spoke Wrench We include a spoke wrench with all of our kits. The spoke wrench is a metal ring about 1" diameter that has notches cut out. Keep an eye out for this in your package as it is not obvious to most. The spoke wrench can usually be found packaged with the throttle unit.

Things you may want to add:
WireSet
includes fuse, jumpers, charger port, and connection to controller. If your battery already comes with these parts, a wireset is not needed, but if it doesn't, the cost of the set is quite a bit less than the individual components.

Lights,  Mirrors, Double Kickstand. Lights and mirrors improve the safety of your ride. Since adding a Phoenix II system to your frame makes your frame much heavier, a double kickstand may be desired in order to keep your bike from falling. Regular bicycle kickstands tend to bend, break, or simply won't hold the extra weight of your Phoenix II. Double kickstands can be cut or modified to offer the desired fit to your frame.
